A Journey In Pictures Through Colorado Wine Country Part 1

the cliffs surrounding Palisade, right as you drive into the valley from the east,

DeBeque Canyon Winery is a wonderful place to taste some of the most wonderful colorado wines, visit their website to learn more and for directions, their Claret Bordeaux style blend is especially wonderful! (not just because the website says so, I've had it and it is wonderful)

Ever Wanted to Own a Winery or a Vineyard?

Have you ever wanted to own a winery or some vineyard land, Grande River Vineyards in Palisade is up for auction on Tuesday, October 24. The JP King Auction Company has the full listing for the auction.

78± acres of vineyard property could yield
up to 40,000± gallons - vineyard produces
enough grapes for approximately 200,000±
bottles annually.

Grande River Vineyard has 11 Vinifera
varieties that flourish in two separate
vineyards located in Colorado’s first and
largest Appellation, which is referred to
as the Grand Valley Viticulture Area, and
features exceptional growing conditions for
many European varieties.

Varieties flourishing in Grande River
Vineyards include: (white) Sauvignon Blanc,
Semillon, Chardonnay, Viognier, (red) Syrah,
Cinsault, Mourvedre, Petit Verdot, Merlot,
Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon

Grande River Vineyards are the largest single grower in Colorado and provide grapes to many other wineries in Colorado as well as to wineries in 9 other states. I don't know the reasons behind the sale at this time, or why the vineyards are going to be seperated into different parcels, but we can only hope that another grower or group of growers and winemakers take over, we don't need our young wine country turned into expensive condos or other development. Let's hope this is a move forward for our young wine industry.

Update: Monday, October 9. The owners are going into retirement and selling the property in a traditional manner hasn't worked, so they are going to auction. More on this story from The Daily Sentinal of Grand Junction
